Activities

Pleasant View’s activity calendar is always full! Participation in activities is a great way for residents to get to know other residents. This department is located on the North Unit and features a home theater room with a 100” screen, a game room, card room, craft room, library, relaxation room and family visitation rooms. Residents are encouraged to visit the unit anytime staff is present. Each resident has an individualized activity plan and also has a full-time activity aide assigned to implement these. There are also many activity options for residents who prefer to remain in their rooms. Reading material is available in large print, audio and visual formats. There are also hundreds of DVDs and several DVD players.

Music and Memory

Pleasant View has been designated as a Music and MemorySM Certified Care Facility, the only facility in Shiawassee County and one of only 27 facilities in the State of Michigan. Music and Memory is a national non-profit organization that brings personalized music into the lives of the elderly or infirm through iPods. Staff and other elder care professionals, as well as family caregivers, are trained on how to help residents create personalized playlists. This enables those struggling with Alzheimer’s, dementia and other cognitive and physical challenges to reconnect with the world through music-triggered memories.

Pleasant View currently has iPod Shuffles, headphones, and chargers for every one of its 90 residents. Donations of iPods, chargers and music, either in the form of CDs or iTunes cards, are accepted. For more information about the Music and Memory program, visit the Music & Memory website.

Animal Therapy

catPleasant View believes that having access to animal contact can have a powerful impact on residents. We currently have two cats, Oreo and Buddy, who live in our North Activity Center and also have five aviaries that are located throughout the facility.  In all, we are home to more than 50 birds. Pleasant View also encourages pet visits as long as the animals are properly vaccinated, with records on file with the activities director, and are leashed and controlled at all times by their owners.

Volunteers

Pleasant View welcomes volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the activities director. Volunteers can visit with residents, help with activities such as painting and crafting, or even just reading to residents. Willingness and enthusiasm are more important than talent and skill!
